Remember You Must Die:
A Curated Exhibition from the Memento Mori Collection of Ryan Matthew Cohn
September 25 through November 2, 2026
Installed in the house’s former Billiards Room, the exhibition draws on the personal memento mori collection of Ryan Matthew Cohn, much of it acquired from Richard Harris, whose decades of collecting produced one of the world’s most significant gatherings of death-related art and material culture. The objects on view, ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary works, trace how societies have approached mortality through art, ritual, and symbolism, with particular depth in nineteenth-century mourning traditions. Set inside one of America’s most distinctive historic homes, the exhibition turns the Octagon House itself into part of the experience, pairing architecture and atmosphere with an intimate meditation on memory and what people choose to leave behind.
